At BitsNotes, accessible from bitsnotes.com, one of our main priorities is the protection of our visitors' information. This Privacy Policy document contains types of information that is collected and recorded by BitsNotes and how we use it.

2. Log Files

BitsNotes follows a standard procedure of using log files. These files log visitors when they visit websites. All hosting companies do this and a part of hosting services' analytics. The information collected by log files includes internet protocol (IP) addresses, browser type, Internet Service Provider (ISP), date and time stamp, referring/exit pages, and possibly the number of clicks. These are not linked to any information that is personally identifiable. The purpose of the information is for analyzing trends, administering the site, tracking users' movement on the website, and gathering demographic information.

3. Cookies and Web Beacons

Like any other website, BitsNotes uses 'cookies'. These cookies are used to store information including visitors' preferences, and the pages on the website that the visitor accessed or visited. The information is used to optimize the users' experience by customizing our web page content based on visitors' browser type and/or other information.

Google is one of the third-party vendors on our site. BitsNotes's Privacy Policy does not apply to other advertisers or websites. Thus, we are advising you to consult the respective Privacy Policies of these third-party ad servers for more detailed information. It may include their practices and instructions about how to opt-out of certain options.

6. Newsletter Subscription

When you subscribe to our newsletter, we use the email address associated with your BitsNotes account.

Subscription requires signing in with your account. We store a cryptographic token associated with your email to facilitate secure unsubscription.

You can unsubscribe at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link included in every newsletter email. Upon unsubscription, your email is marked as inactive but retained briefly for audit purposes. You may contact us at support@bitsnotes.com to request permanent deletion of your data.

7. CCPA Data Protection Rights

Under the CCPA, among other rights, California consumers have the right to:

• Request that a business that collects a consumer's personal data disclose the categories and specific pieces of personal data that a business has collected about consumers.
• Request that a business delete any personal data about the consumer that a business has collected.
• Request that a business that sells a consumer's personal data, not sell the consumer's personal data.

9. Public Comments

BitsNotes allows visitors to post anonymous comments on lecture and subject pages without creating an account. When you post a comment, we store the display name and comment text you provide, along with a pseudonymous delete token (stored only as a salted hash) that lets you remove your own comment later. We do not collect your email or IP address for comments, and we do not publish raw IP addresses.

Comments are moderated automatically and by site administrators. Submissions containing explicit profanity are rejected, while suspected spam may be held for review. Comments reported by multiple visitors may be automatically hidden. You can request removal of your comment at any time using your delete token, or contact us at support@bitsnotes.com.

10. Functional Visitor Cookie & Feedback

BitsNotes uses a lightweight, functional visitor cookie (named bitsnotes-visitor) to power the anonymous "Was this useful?" feedback on lecture and subject pages. The cookie stores only a random, opaque identifier in your browser — it contains no personal data and is not used for advertising or cross-site tracking.

When you vote, we store only an HMAC hash of that identifier in our database so we can avoid counting duplicate votes from the same browser and remember your choice on return visits. We do not store the raw cookie value. Optional "not yet useful" reasons you submit are stored privately for internal improvement and are not shown publicly. You can clear this cookie at any time through your browser settings; doing so simply resets your feedback state.
